Easy Art For Kids CD-Rom 1 – Basic Drawing.

This CD-Rom is suitable for Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils, however, pupils at Key Stage 2 who are experiencing difficulties with drawing will also find it helpful.  It is also useful for adults (dare I say teachers?) who have no confidence in their drawing ability.

The programme is very easy to use; it begins with the basic shapes (Circle, Square, Rectangle and Triangle) and teaches children how to recognise these shapes in everyday objects.  It then explains how to use these basic shapes to draw different objects/animals using simple step-by-step instructions.  It contains sections on Pets, Farm Animals, Transport and Zoo Animals. Each ‘How To’ page may be printed out individually.

The CD-Rom will be useful in Art and Design/Design and Technology, giving even the least able child a method for producing the drawings that are needed in these subjects. The inclusion on the CD-Rom of pictures to colour and backgrounds for use with the child’s own drawings is intended to extend their imagination.

Suggestion for group use:-

Farm Scene – The children can make this using different coloured and textured materials, or by finding suitable colours and textures in magazine pictures.  They can then draw and colour their own farm animals, dogs, cats, tractors, cars, lorries etc. to add to the scene.  This will cover: - exploring and developing ideas, investigating and making art, craft and design using different materials, and encourage working in groups, test the children’s knowledge and understanding, and give them a basis for evaluating and developing their work.    The class could then use this in their English and MFL lessons, as a basis for their own stories and poems.  The use could then be extended to include History/Geography – Have people always kept pets?  Were certain animals revered by other civilizations?  Have animals been sent into space?  How has transport changed?  Is our countryside different because of this?  How were the hills formed?  Is our countryside the same as in other countries?

The CD-Rom also contains sections on Transport and Zoo Animal.  I’m sure as teachers you will have many ideas of your own for incorporating these into your curriculum.
